Remember when feeding your bird for the races, be sure to feed light during the first part of the week, and then
heavier towards the last part of the week.Feeding is one of the most important parts of racing. Birds should be fed more protein
type seeds for the short races, and more carbohydrate and fat seeds for the longer races. A good flyer should be able
to pick his birds up and be able to tell wether the bird is to thin, or to fat for any given race.
It is always better to keep the flyers a little on the hungry side. That way they will trap better on the training tosses and
during the races.... I also believe in carboloading your birds the night before you ship the birds! by using peanuts, whole
corn, and safflower....This works great in young birds, or on the shorter races during old birds..see my young bird training
and feeding page.....also click on this link and go to my main Hawkbait lofts web site......
IF YOUR BREEDERS SEEM TO BE KNOCKING THE GRIT ALL OVER THE PLACE, OR OUT OF THE GRIT CONTAINER.. ADD
SOME TABLE SALT TO YOUR GRIT..I USE IODIZED SEA SALT..I USE 3 TEASPOONS PER 2 LBS OF GRIT..I ALSO ADD EXTRA OYSTER
SHELL, AND CHARCOAL.WHICH CAN BE FOUND AT MOST SEED AND FEED STORES, OR PIGEON SUPPLY HOUSES...
~TIP OF THE WEEK~
DURING TIME OF HEAVY MOSQUITO INFESTATION, IT IS GOOD TO PUT FLOWERS OF SULPHUR IN YOUR GRIT..IT CAN BE
FOUND IN SOME HEALTH FOOD STORES OR ON E-BAY. OR YOU CAN GET IT FROM FOY'S PIGEON SUPPLY..WHEN THE PIGEONS GO TO GET GRIT,
THEY GET THE SULPHUR ON THEIR BEAKS AND NOSE, AND IT HELPS TO WARD OFF MOSQUITO'S. MOSQUITO'S CAN CARRY MALARIA,POX, AND NEWCASTLE
VIRUS AMONG OTHER THINGS..
